iSync Support for the Sony Ericsson P1i, P990i, W950i

Sony Ericsson have released three official iSync Phone Plugins for their UIQ/Symbian based phones:

iSync Workarounds for the Sony Ericsson M600

There is no iSync Phone Plugin for the M600 currently as this phone has not had the required updates made in its firmware to allow iSync to work.

Address Book Workarounds

You can send your contacts to the phone via Bluetooth. Highlight some contacts in Address Book and choose "Send These Cards..." from the "Card" menu. You may need to set the vCard format to 2.1 in Address Book preferences.

iCal Workarounds

A perl script from Thierry Girard is available from here which will convert events/alarms from iCal for the next 24 months to a format that can be sent to the phone.

iSync Workarounds

There is currently no way to enable iSync syncing. But a posting by 'petvas' on the Apple Discussions forum here, gives a syncing possibility for the M600 using an Exchange Account (such as www.4smartphone.net) and the Exchange Active Sync software for the M600i, available for free from the Sony Ericsson web site.

File Transfer

It is possible to mount the W950 on the Desktop by choosing the Fast File Transfer mode in the USB Options on the phone when plugging it in via the USB cable. If you have previously installed the K750iGrabber software you should remove this and restart the Mac.

SonyEricsson M600i & P990i USB File Mode Enabler

Magnus Nordlander has created a kext (kernal extension) that allows the M600 and P990 to mount on the Mac desktop for file transfers via USB. Read more and leave comments on Magnus' blog here. Thanks Magnus!

Here's the file: M600USBFileEnabler.zip (Mirror)

Magnus: "It seems that the SonyEricsson M600i identifies itself as a Communications device. This causes Mac OS X not to mount it. This code-less kext makes Mac OS X recognize the M600i (and possibly, but not tested P990i, if you verify this, post it as a comment here, and I’ll edit this post, the W950 works out of the box) as a Composite unit, thus making Mac OS X mount the mass storage device."
